Welcome to SerpentQuest. These Terms of Service (the “Terms”) are an agreement between you and SerpentQuest (“SerpentQuest,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) and govern your use of serpentquest.com, the SerpentQuest learning app, and related services (together, the “Service”). By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.
If you are under 18, please read these Terms with a parent or guardian. If you are a parent or guardian allowing a child to use SerpentQuest, you agree to these Terms on the child’s behalf and are responsible for the child’s use of the Service.

1. Who can use SerpentQuest
- Ages 13 and older may create an account on their own. Users under 18 should have a parent or guardian’s permission.
- Children under 13 may only use SerpentQuest with the consent of a parent or guardian. When a child under 13 signs up, we ask for a parent’s email address and the account stays inactive until the parent approves it. Some features (such as public posting, comments, friends and photo profile pictures) are not available to children under 13.
- You must provide accurate information when signing up, including your age range.
2. Your account
- You are responsible for keeping your password private and for all activity on your account. Tell us right away if you think someone else has used it.
- Usernames must be appropriate and must not impersonate another person or contain personal information such as your real full name, address, school or phone number.
- One person per account. Do not share, sell or transfer your account.
- You may delete your account at any time from the My Account page. See the Privacy Policy for what happens to your information.
3. Community rules
SerpentQuest is a learning community for young people. To keep it safe and friendly, you agree not to:
- Bully, harass, threaten, or be mean to anyone.
- Post or share anything violent, sexual, hateful, discriminatory, scary, or otherwise inappropriate for children, including in code, comments, reactions, usernames, document titles, profile pictures, or animated avatars (videos and GIFs).
- Use a photo, video, or GIF of another person without their permission.
- Share personal information about yourself or others (full names, addresses, phone numbers, schools, social media accounts, passwords, or photos of other people).
- Try to meet other users in person or move conversations to other apps or websites.
- Spam, advertise, or post links to unsafe or unrelated websites.
- Upload or share code designed to cause harm, such as viruses, code that steals information, or code meant to crash other users’ browsers.
- Cheat or misuse the Service, for example by using bots, scraping, hacking, getting around safety filters, or accessing accounts or data that are not yours.
- Copy other people’s work and present it as your own without permission.
- Break any law.
Use the Report buttons to tell us about anything that breaks these rules. Reports are reviewed by our team.
4. Documents, friends and sharing
- Documents you post publicly can be viewed by anyone, including visitors without an account. Members may post publicly. Free accounts and children under 13 can keep documents private.
- You may share private documents with friends and choose whether each friend can view, comment on, or edit them. Friends with edit access can change the document’s name and code. You are responsible for who you share with.
- Friend requests are optional. Only accept requests from people you know and trust. Friends features are not available to children under 13.
- We use automatic filters and community reports to help keep content appropriate. Content that is reported by several people may be hidden until our team reviews it.
5. Your content
- You keep ownership of the code, documents, comments, and avatars you create (“Your Content”).
- Animated avatars made from your own video or GIF are a member feature for users 13 and older. Only the first few seconds are kept, without sound, as a small looping image that everyone can see. Avatars that break the community rules are removed and may lead to suspension.
- By posting Your Content, you give SerpentQuest a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to store, display, and share it within the Service, as needed to run the Service and as you choose (for example, public documents or documents shared with friends). This license ends when you delete the content or your account, except for copies kept in backups for a limited time.
- You are responsible for Your Content and confirm that you have the right to post it.
- We may remove any content that breaks these Terms or that we believe is unsafe, without notice.
6. Memberships and payments
- Many lessons are free. A paid membership unlocks additional lessons and features. The current price is shown on the membership page before you buy.
- Memberships are billed in advance and renew automatically each billing period until cancelled. Purchases by anyone under 18 must be made by, or with the permission of, a parent or guardian.
- Payments are processed by third-party payment providers (such as Stripe or PayPal). We do not see or store full card numbers.
- Cancelling: you can cancel at any time from My Account → My membership. Your membership stays active until the end of the period you already paid for, and you will not be charged again.
- Refunds: payments are generally non-refundable, including for partial billing periods, except where required by law. If you believe you were charged by mistake, contact us within 30 days and we will make it right.
- We may change membership prices. We will tell you before a price change affects your next renewal, and you may cancel before it takes effect.
- Memberships given for free by SerpentQuest may be changed or ended at any time.
7. Our content and the Service
- The SerpentQuest name, logo, lessons, quizzes, challenges, artwork, and software belong to SerpentQuest and are protected by copyright and other laws. You may use them for your own personal learning, but you may not copy, sell, or republish them without our permission.
- Code examples in lessons may be used in your own projects.
- The desktop app and any mobile apps are provided for use with your SerpentQuest account only.
- We may add, change, or remove features, lessons, or courses at any time.
8. Safety, moderation and enforcement
If you break these Terms, we may, depending on how serious it is: remove content, reset a username or profile picture, suspend posting for a period of time, ban posting permanently, or suspend or close the account. We may also contact a parent or guardian. Where we believe someone may be in danger, we may contact the appropriate authorities. You may contact us if you believe we made a mistake.
9. Disclaimers
The Service is provided “as is” and “as available.” We work hard to keep SerpentQuest accurate, safe, and running, but we cannot promise that it will always be available, error-free, or that lessons will be free of mistakes. Code you run in SerpentQuest runs in your own browser; you are responsible for the code you choose to run. To the fullest extent allowed by law, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.
10. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent allowed by law, SerpentQuest will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, profits, or goodwill, arising from your use of the Service. Our total liability for any claim relating to the Service is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim, or $50, whichever is greater. Some places do not allow these limits, so they may not apply to you.
11. Ending your use
You may stop using SerpentQuest and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or end your access if you break these Terms, if required by law, or if we stop offering the Service. If we stop offering paid memberships, we will refund any unused prepaid time.
12. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make important changes, we will post the new Terms here, update the effective date, and where appropriate notify you in the app or by email. Continuing to use SerpentQuest after changes take effect means you accept the updated Terms.
13. General
These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy, are the entire agreement between you and SerpentQuest about the Service. These Terms are governed by the laws of the United States and the state in which SerpentQuest operates, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. If any part of these Terms is found unenforceable, the rest stays in effect. If we do not enforce a part of these Terms right away, we have not given up the right to do so later.
